অপচয় ও অপব্যয় মানুষের ব্যক্তিগত, পারিবারিক ও সামাজিক জীবনে অবক্ষয় ডেকে আনে। যে কারণে ইসলামে অপচয় ও অপব্যয় দুটিই নিষিদ্ধ।

ইসলামী শরিয়ত অনুযায়ী কোনো কাজ বৈধ হলেও সে ক্ষেত্রেও যদি প্রয়োজনাতিরিক্ত ব্যয় করা হয় তবে তাকে ইসরাফ বা অপচয় হিসেবে দেখা হয়। ইসলাম বৈধ কাজেও মাত্রাতিরিক্ত ব্যয় সমর্থন করে না। অন্যদিকে অবৈধ কাজ চূড়ান্তভাবে অননুমোদনযোগ্য। অবৈধ কাজে ব্যয় করাকে তাবজির বা অপব্যয় বলা হয়।

অপচয় ও অপব্যয় একটি খারাপ অভ্যাস ও নিন্দনীয় প্রবণতা। অপচয়ের সঙ্গে রয়েছে অহংকারের সম্পর্ক। নিজের বাহাদুরি প্রকাশের মনোভাব। অন্যদিকে অপব্যয়ের সঙ্গে রয়েছে শরিয়তি বিধান লঙ্ঘনের সম্পর্ক। ইসলাম যা থেকে অনুসারীদের দূরে থাকার নির্দেশ দিয়েছে।

অপচয় ও অপব্যয়ের বিরুদ্ধে পবিত্র কোরআন ও হাদিসে বারবার সতর্ক করা হয়েছে। মানুষ যাতে এই খারাপ প্রবণতা থেকে দূরে থাকে সে জন্যই এ দুটি বিষয় সম্পর্কে এত বেশি সতর্ক করা হয়েছে। অপব্যয়কারীদের পবিত্র কোরআনে শয়তানের ভাই হিসেবে অভিহিত করা হয়েছে। এরশাদ করা হয়েছে, ‘আত্মীয়স্বজনকে তার হক দান কর, অভাবগ্রস্ত ও মুসাফিরকেও এবং কিছুতেই অপব্যয় কর না। নিশ্চয়ই অপব্যয়কারীরা শয়তানের ভাই। শয়তান স্বীয় পালনকর্তার প্রতি অতিশয় অকৃতজ্ঞ।’ (সূরা বনি ইসরাইল ২৬-২৭)

অপব্যয়ের বিরুদ্ধে সতর্ক করে আল্লাহপাক বলেছেন, ‘হে বনী আদম। তোমরা প্রত্যেক সালাতের সময় সাজসজ্জা পরিধান করে নাও, খাও ও পান কর এবং অপচয় কর না। নিশ্চয়ই তিনি অপচয়কারীদের পছন্দ করেন না।’ (সূরা আ’রাফ : ৩১)

রসুল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম এরশাদ করেছেন, বিলাসিতা পরিহার কর, আল্লাহর নেক বান্দারা বিলাসী জীবনযাপন করে না। (মুসনাদে আহমদ)

অপচয় সম্পর্কে ইসলামের কঠোর মনোভাব প্রকাশ পেয়েছে রসুল সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের একটি হাদিসে। যাতে অজু করার সময়ও পানির অপচয় না হয় সে বিষয়ে সতর্ক থাকতে তাগিদ দেওয়া হয়েছে। ইসলামে অপচয়-অপব্যয়ের পাশাপাশি কৃপণতারও বিরোধিতা করা হয়েছে। ব্যয়ের ক্ষেত্রে ইসলামে মধ্যপন্থা অনুসরণকে উৎসাহিত করা হয়েছে। এরশাদ করা হয়েছে ‘এবং যখন তারা ব্যয় করে তখন তারা অপচয় করে না, কার্পণ্যও করে না। বরং তারা এ দুটির মাঝে মধ্যমপন্থা অবলম্বন করে।’ (সূরা ফুরকান : ৬৭)। আল্লাহ আমাদের সবাইকে অপচয় ও অপব্যয় থেকে দূরে থাকার তাওফিক দান করুন।

Allahpak warned against waste, 'O children of Adam! At the time of every prayer, put on a garment, eat, and drink and do not waste it. Surely he does not like the wasteful ones. '' (Surah A'raaf: 31)

The Messenger of Allah (Sm.) said, "Abstain from luxury, and the righteous servants of Allah do not live in luxury." (Musnad Ahmad)

Islam has shown a strong attitude of waste in a hadith of the Messenger of Allah (SM). It is urged to be careful about the water not being wasted during the practice. In addition to misuse of waste in Islam, miserliness has also been opposed. In the case of expenditure, Islam has been encouraged to follow moderate means.
